Halloween weekend - Zebras and Mermaids

So this year I was not sewing, gluing or pinning anything to costumes as we were heading out the door to all of the festivities, but that's probably only because I knew that I would be missing the trick or treating so I forced myself to complete something without it being extremely last minute.  Procrastination is my middle name.
Everyone was in town for Halloween this year and we had lots and lots of activities to share.  First up was the community pumpkin decorating.  GG and Pap were able to go with us this year and we were able to share our morning with our new friends Jill, Colin, Riley and Tony.  There were two sizes of pumpkins to pick from and of course A went for the smaller size.  The community did an excellent job of bringing around new and different supplies every few minutes (glitter, pipe cleaners, hair, eye balls, and much more).
After pumpkin decorating we went to the local library for their annual haunted Halloween for kids.  Adelaide was scared at all, she wanted to touch everything and get to the end to get her candy and complete her craft which was a spider web.  We go to the library most Mondays for story time and crafts, so we did run into a few people that we knew.
One more Halloween activity for Saturday morning...back to the community center for a hayride and trick or treating.  Everyone was able to get into the wagon and ride around the parking lot where there were vendors set up to give all of the kids candy.  Since it was drizzling outside there were many participants so the kids were able to make multiple laps.  I think the adults enjoyed it more than the kids.
Day 2 of Halloween weekend meant a trip to Ya-Ya and Grrs for dinner and then we hopped back into the car to go to one of the many local churches for a Fall Festival.  There were games, prizes, bounce houses, crafts, balloon animals, cotton candy, icees and I am sure a lot more that I can't think of right now or we got too tired and never made it to.  I have to admit that I was being a little morbid on this night and trying to really soak everything in with A because I was a little scared of what was to come with my surgery the next morning.  I can honestly say that I did not take anything I did this weekend for granted.  After the festival we headed home to rest.
Halloween morning - off to the hospital for Grant and I while everyone was still sleeping.  GG and Pap stayed with the kids and had a full schedule of activities for the day.  First A needed to be at speech and then immediately needed to put her costume on and head to the library for story time and trick or treating in the library.  In true P fashion, she got hungry AGAIN as soon as they got to the library, but thankfully Aunt Kari was there to save the day and keep A so P could go home and eat with GG and Pap.  (P refuses to drink a cold bottle)
There was a little window of time that allowed Grant to go home and see the girls before they had to get dressed up for their big night of fun.  My little zebra and mermaid went to the community center again for activities, games and costume parade before heading out for trick or treating.  Grr was also on zebra duty for the night.  My Mom and Grant came to see me before dinner and they were both looking pitiful and I knew they wanted to see the girls, so I sent them home to take lots of pictures of the girls and report the Halloween happenings.  The first call came from Grant to tell me that Penelope won a prize and then a few minutes later I got the call that Adelaide had won one too.  I am the proud Mom of a Best Homemade Costume and Best Tot Costume.  That's right...2 years running champ in Fleming Island Plantation!  Had to brag a little here.  It was an exciting weekend for everyone!
So since I couldn't see them in their completed costumes on the actual day of Halloween, I made my sister come over to help me reenact the night.  Two weeks after the festivities, we dressed them up again so I could take my own photos.
Update - A was mentioned in the community newsletter and there were two pictures of P.
