Circus Afro Circus Afro

Every Friday at lunch my co-workers and I talk about what we are going to do that weekend.  When it got to my turn and I said that I was going to trapeze school they looked at me like I spoke gibberish.  So I immediately break out into the little bit from Madagascar.  I mean can you really talk about something circus without humming this little song or in my case wanting to jump around like a nut?  Just to clarify: this is the only part I have seen from the whole movie.

The other thing I should mention before getting too far into this is the fact that I have a true Groupon and LivingSocial problem.  If it's local and the least bit interesting I purchase and then try to figure out later how I am going to get it all crammed into our schedules.  I have tried out new spas, Grant and Kari have gone paddle boarding, art class for A, restaurants, kickboxing and the list goes on.  So this time I bought trapeze school for Grant and I and oddly enough it was a whole 3 miles from our house.  I always knew my family resembled a circus but this just put a whole new spin on it.

We get there with no idea what to expect and once again excuse the fact that all I had was my phone for picture purposes.  Grant and I look around like what in the world have I gotten us into, I should also mention Grant isn't big on heights.  They put these extremely tight belts on us, a little bit of instruction and then we were lining up to go up the ladder.  I get up the ladder (still not nervous) and then I stood there for about two seconds on the platform before I start to panic.  I've seen others get up there and do it from our small class, but holy crap this is scary.

No worries, I don't chicken out because I am not a quitter.  So I get into position which is the opposite of what you would imagine and then they get the bar over to me.  Once again HOLY CRAP this bar is like 50 pounds.  I just keep telling myself that I can do this and I was off to the banana position (official language here).  Grant and I both get through our first jump with hearts pounding and then it was time to climb again.  This time we were going to get our legs up over the bar, but the timing has to be perfect or else it isn't going to happen.  Nope, I didn't get it either time I tried but Grant did.

Now is when the quitting happened.  I got to the point that I realized I wasn't going to be a circus performer in this sense and that I hated doing it so I quit.  Just as a little side note, as soon as I quit the others followed in my footsteps so I'm going to say I was a leader that morning - ha.

Grant was the opposite of me and started to really get into it.  once everyone quit it was just him and 2 others so he must have gone up there a dozen times compared to my 3.

I'm really glad I tried this, but there is no way I am doing it again, I'll leave it to me little Circus Afro.
